As the weather becomes cooler and the days grow shorter, many of us naturally begin to crave warmth—not only in what we wear, but in the way we care for ourselves.
Fall invites us to slow down. It is the season of warm blankets, quieter evenings and comforting drinks held between both hands. One of my favorite simple rituals for this time of year is a cup of golden milk.
Golden milk is warm milk blended with turmeric and a few familiar spices. It is easy to make, deeply comforting and a lovely way to create a small moment of care in an otherwise busy day.
What Is Golden Milk?
Golden milk is traditionally made by warming milk with turmeric. Cinnamon, ginger and black pepper are often added for extra warmth and flavor.
Turmeric gives the drink its beautiful golden color. It also contains curcumin, a plant compound that has been studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. While turmeric can be part of a balanced diet, golden milk is not a medical treatment or a cure. I like to think of it simply as a nourishing drink and a gentle daily ritual.

1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
-
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
-
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, or a small piece of freshly grated ginger
-
A small pinch of black pepper
-
1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup, optional
Directions
-
Pour the milk into a small saucepan.
-
Add the turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and black pepper.
-
Warm gently over medium-low heat for approximately five minutes, whisking occasionally. Do not allow it to boil over.
-
Remove it from the heat and stir in honey, if using.
-
Pour it into your favorite mug, take a breath and enjoy it slowly.
Make It Your Own
The beauty of this recipe is that you can adjust it to suit you.
-
Prefer it creamier? Use oat milk, coconut milk or your favorite dairy milk.
-
Prefer it less sweet? Leave out the honey or maple syrup.
-
Love warming spices? Add a small pinch of cardamom or nutmeg.
-
Sensitive to strong spices? Begin with less turmeric and ginger, then adjust slowly.
Your wellness rituals should work for you—not ask you to force yourself into someone else’s routine.
More Than a Drink
Golden milk does not need to become another task on your list. Let it be a small signal to your body that the day is slowing down.
While the milk warms, put your phone aside. Take three slow breaths. Notice how you feel without immediately trying to fix anything.
Then enjoy your drink while reading, journaling or completing your evening skincare routine.
This is the kind of care I believe in at RAAH: simple steps, repeated with intention. Whether we are caring for our skin or our whole selves, we do not always need more. Sometimes we need fewer things that genuinely support us.
A Gentle Safety Note
Turmeric used in normal food amounts is generally considered safe for most people. Concentrated turmeric or curcumin supplements are different from the small culinary amount used in this drink and may interact with certain medicines.
Speak with a qualified healthcare professional before taking turmeric supplements, especially if you take medication, have a medical condition, are preparing for surgery, are pregnant or are trying to conceive.
Golden milk is a comforting food ritual and is not a replacement for medical care or prescribed treatment.
As we move into fall, may this warm cup remind you that taking care of yourself does not always have to be complicated. Sometimes it begins with a quiet moment, a favorite mug and permission to slow down.
With love and gratitude,
